On 23-24 January, 2018 Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) organized journalist workshop and media tour in Kutaisi.
The first section of the event envisaged provision of the training to approximately ten journalists on the IDP rights, related legislation and ongoing reforms. Moreover, the journalists had a chance to get familiar with the advocacy campaigns launched by the working groups established by LAG, learn about the progress achieved and remaining challenges. After orientation workshop the media representatives were asked to visit preliminary identified IDP settlements in order to cover existing problems via TV reportages, radio programs and newspaper articles.
The workshop and media tour were organized in the framework “Towards the Fairer Society” project which is being implemented in several regions of the country in partnership with Danish Refugee Council and Charity Humanitarian Center “Abkhazeti”. The aim of the project is to capacitate local CBOs and CSOs working on IDP issues so that they can advocate for their rights. The project is funded by Civil Society Development Fund (CISU).

On 7th of December, 2017 representatives of the Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) and working group composed of community based and civil society organizations functioning in Imereti region and Senaki Municipality held meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Kutaisi, Mr. Iuza Ugulava. The aim of the meeting was to present the problems identified in the framework of advocacy campaign in Imereti region and which relates to setting up/rehabilitating drainage systems in five IDP settlements in Kutaisi (Chavchavadze Str. #58b, Nikea Str. #21, Dadiani Str. #3, Chavchavadze Str. #16a) and Tskaltubo (Str. 9 April). The deputy mayor promised to analyze the issue and organized next working meeting where the parties would go through the expert opinion prepared in the framework of the project and decide on possible solutions of the problems in each settlement.
