UNDEF Electoral Trainings Start

In August, 2019, Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) and its implementing partners launched the
series of trainings on Legal Basics for Parliamentary and Local Self-Government Elections. The
Electoral trainings are organized for IDPs living in Collective Centers in Borjomi, Kutaisi and Zugdidi
Municipality. The Electoral trainings are organized in the framework of the "Foster Democracy
through Electoral Participation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Georgia" project. The
project is funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) and aims at to increase
awareness of electoral processes and to create an informed type of participation for IDPs in
Georgia.

the International Summer Academy

On July 18-19, 2019, Dimitri Zviadadze, Programme Manager of Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) was
invited as a guest-speaker for the International Summer Academy dedicated to the Migration and Integration
in the Eastern Partnership and Baltic Sea Region. The two weeks International Summer Academy was
organized by the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) and the University of Gothenburg (UoG) Sweden.
LAG representative delivered presentation on “Forced Migration related Legal Issues – Georgian Experience
with some Ukrainian Parallels”.

UNDEF Monitoring Visit

 On May 20th, 2019, Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) hosted Mr. Christian Lamarre, Senior Programme Management Officer, from the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF). This was a monitoring visit organized in the framework of the "Foster Democracy through Electoral Participation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Georgia" project funded by UNDEF. The project aims at to increase awareness of electoral processes and to create an informed type of participation for IDPs in Georgia.

During the meeting Mr. Lamarre was briefed on the current progress of the project. Later on, the field visit to Shavshvebi IDP settlement in Shida Kartli was organized where improvised workshop with IDPs took place.

IDP Forum

On 24 April 2019, Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) in partnership with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia (IDP Ministry) has organized IDP Forum in Hotel “Vere Palace”, Tbilisi.

The IDP Forum gathered up to 40 representatives of IDP communities from the different regions of Georgia including Zugdidi, Poti, Kopitnari, Khoni, Tskaltubo, Kutaisi, Tserovani, Rustavi and Tbilisi. Also, the representatives of the national state institutions (e.g. IDP Ministry, Abkhazian Government in exile) and local authorities (e.g. Zugdidi and Rustavi municipalities) participated in the event. 

The ultimate goal of the IDP forum was to enable exchange of ideas, perceptions and visions on way forward regarding addressing internal displacement in Georgia. More specifically, the IDP Forum aimed to increase awareness on internal displacement related challenges, generate constructive dialogue between IDP communities, national and local stakeholders, as well as develop recommendations for all those concerned.

On October 31 and November 1, 2017, the Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) organized a round table in Rustavi and Tskaltubo. 
The aim of the meeting was to present project goals and objectives, offered services, planned main activities, gained experiences and best practices. A significant focus was on consultation and referral services and cooperation mechanisms.
The event was attended by local municipality, international and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community based organizations (CBOs) representatives from targeted locations.

The goal of the project is to address human rights and protection challenges of Internally Displaced Persons living in Rustavi, Gardabani, Tskaltubo and Kopitnari communities through providing effective protection, referral, advocacy and capacity building services. The project is implemented by the Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) in partnership with Save the Children (SC) and funded by the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (BPRM).

On October 18, 2017, Save the Children conducted orientation workshop on child safeguarding policy for the Protection Team of the Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG). The meeting was organized within “Supporting Human Rights and Protection of Internally Displaced People in Georgia” project. The goal of the project is to address human rights and protection challenges of Internally Displaced Persons living in Rustavi, Gardabani, Tskaltubo and Kopitnari communities through providing effective protection, referral, advocacy and capacity building services. The project is implemented by the Consortium Legal Aid Georgia in partnership with Save the Children and funded by the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (BPRM).

On October 3-4, 2017 LAG Consortium together with Save the Children hosted the visit of the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (BPRM) in IDP settlement in Gardabani and collective centers along with newly constructed buildings in Zugdidi. During the meeting the guests were informed about the issues faced by the residents and their needs.
