Project Kick-off Workshop

On January 17th, 2019, Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) organized the workshop in Kutaisi dedicated to the launch of the new project "Foster Democracy through Electoral Participation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Georgia". The project implementing partners discussed the project activities, the ways of implementation as well as their roles and responsibilities in the project. By the end of the meeting, the sub-grant agreements have been signed with the project implementing partners, namely: Social Programs Foundation (SPF), Organization Future Prosperity House (OFPH) and Legal Protection Institute (LPI). The project is funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) and aims at to increase awareness of electoral processes and to create an informed type of participation for IDPs in Georgia.

Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) is recruiting the Office Assistant – Intern to be based in Tbilisi. The incumbent will support smooth functioning of LAG office, including support to the LAG project operations managed and implemented from Tbilisi office. LAG offers exciting working environment open for learning and development to its employees and associates. Please note that this position does NOT entail any salary. However, the successful candidates, upon completion of the internship, will have an advantage in any future recruitments with LAG for similar positions.

United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF)

Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) has launched a new project "Foster Democracy through Electoral Participation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Georgia". The project aims at to increase awareness of electoral processes and to create an informed type of participation for IDPs in Georgia. This will be achieved through mobilization and training to improve knowledge of electoral processes and encourage meaningful electoral involvement in the upcoming 2020 parliamentary and 2021 municipal elections. Capacity building activities will target civil society organizations who observe and monitor the elections in Georgia. The project is funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).

LAG Consortium Chairman Visit to Ucraine

On 25-26 October 2018, Dimitri Zviadadze, Chairman of Consortium Legal Aid Georgia (LAG) participated as a guest-speaker in the Forum “Efficient Local Government as a Background of Democratic and Rule-of-Law State” which was held in Kramatorsk, Donetsk oblast, Ukraine. The Forum was organized by Donetsk and Luhansk Oblast State Administrations, Parliamentary Committee on State Building, Regional Policy and Local Self-Government, and the Ministry of Regional Development of Ukraine with the support of the Council of Europe.

More than 200 people participated in the event, including members of the Parliament of Ukraine, representatives of central and local executive bodies, local self-government authorities and their associations, experts and academics, international partners.

The Forum included seven panel discussions on the following topics:
Local self-government development; Legislative regulation in the area of local self-government; Strategic planning as an instrument of the new regional policy; Co-operation in addressing IDPs issues: authorities – business – community; Information space: public broadcasting and community media; Children – community’s future; Community safety instruments: financial mechanisms, state emergency service, national police, national minorities issues.
